According to Business Insider, newly appointed Defense Secretary Pat Shanahan is emphasizing that China should be the Pentagon's main focus. Shanahan was previously the deputy defense secretary, but he took over from former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, who resigned over policy differences with the president. Pentagon officials have told Reuters that Shanahan has been a driving force for the Department of Defense's tough approach to Beijing. In a meeting on Wednesday with the department's top civilian and military leaders, Shanahan reportedly told the team to "remember China, China, China."
