Stray cattle are destroying crops and there's nothing that Uttar Pradesh farmers can do about it. Farmers who try to protect their farms from stray cows can get locked up under the National Security Act or the Gangster Act. The Yogi government’s crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses and checks on cattle smuggling have led to a massive surge in the cattle population; a 2012 census said there were two crore cows in the state. Now, NGOs are fleecing farmers by charging up to Rs 6,000 per animal to have stray cattle transported out of villages. Watch this India Today investigation. #StrayCattle #GauRakshaks #CowShelters
