Police in Aurora, Illinois, responded Friday to reports of an active shooter at a manufacturing plant in the southwest suburb of Chicago, city officials said on Twitter.

The Aurora Daily Herald says preliminary reports indicate that four Aurora police officers and multiple civilians have been wounded.

John Probst, a worker at the company, tells ABC7 that the shooter, armed with a pistol, was a co-worker.

"He was shooting everybody . . . As soon as i heard the shot, we left. As soon as I heard it, I took off," Probst said.

He said one of the victims "came running down and was bleeding pretty bad."

ABC7 in Chicago quotes police as saying there are "multiple" casualties, but have not reported if that includes any fatalities.

"There is an active shooter near Highland and Archer," the city said on Twitter. "Aurora Police are on the scene. More information will be available soon."

NBC News Chicago says police units have swarmed the Henry Pratt Company, which makes valves among other industrial equipment..

Initial reports are sketchy, but a woman inside the company tells ABC7 that she believes that some of her co-workers "might have been injured."
