Seven MPs resigned from the Labour Party to establish the so-called 'Independent Group' over issues ranging from Brexit to anti-Semitism, they announced at a press conference held in London on Monday.

MP for Liverpool Wavertree Luciana Berger cited bullying and anti-Semitism as primary reasons for her departure from the party.

“I cannot remain in a party that I have today come to the sickening conclusion is institutionally anti-Semitic,” she said.

MP for Nottingham East Chris Leslie, who accused the party of being “hijacked by the machine politics of the hard left,” also criticised the party for its refusal to back a People’s Vote on Brexit.
