In drifting competitions, drivers slide their cars around corners in aggressive duels assessed by judges. Born in Japan, the sport is now popular in Russia where fans tune vintage Soviet autos and skid them on snowy tracks in winter.

RTD follows leading driver Fedor Vorobyov, who’s aiming to reach the top five in the Russian Drift Series with his boxy Zhiguli, and Ilya Fedorov, RDS East Champion, as they tour the country with families in tow in pursuit of their expensive obsession. And an ambitious advertising executive who trained in Japan has a few setbacks, in spite of his snazzy BMW.

As racers and cars screech, spin and crash before excited crowds, RTD asks what makes drift racing such a fun addiction.
