Senior DPRK and American envoys have been meeting in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi to prepare for the upcoming second summit between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump. In Washington, a Trump administration official told media that the U.S. would share "what denuclearization is" with the DPRK at the upcoming meeting. Republic of Korea media outlet Yonhap says Washington also insists that freezing Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities would be its "ultimate and overriding" goal. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has accepted an interview ahead of the Trump-Kim summit, showing a softening attitude towards U.S. sanctions on Pyongyang. Pompeo said if the nuclear threats to American people were reduced, the two sides could work on a "brighter future" for the DPRK.
