In a public appearance, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that a recent phone conversation with President Donald Trump signaled to him that the U.S. plans to rebuild its relationships with Russia to address mutual interests. Pompeo, who was on his first visit to Russia as secretary of state, acknowledged at the start of the May 14 meeting with Putin that there were areas where the two countries disagreed but said they could cooperate on other issues. Putin also broached the subject of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe. Putin said Mueller's investigation was, on the whole, objective, and he pointed to the conclusion that there was no coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.
