At the Schottenhamel tent at Munich's Oktoberfest the party started as the beer began to flow. Music, dancing and flirting went hand-in-hand with the super-sized pilsners. The Bavarian capital of Munich officially kicked off Oktoberfest celebrations Saturday morning, drawing a huge crowd and a slew of politicians.

Between five to seven million visitors consume around 60,000 hectoliters of beer every year at the Oktoberfest. The beer is served in large glasses called a "Mass," which holds one litre of beer. The site houses 14 large tents with seats for up to 10,000 people inside and outside. The tents are open from 10:00 in the morning until 23:30 at night.

Oktoberfest kicked off at noon and will finish October 5 at 23:00 CEST.
