Some of the coalition air strikes have targetted Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters surrounding a Kurdish town on Syria's border with Turkey.

Meanwhile Kurdish fighters are tackling ISIL on the ground around the town of Kobane.

It is the third biggest population centre for Syria's Kurds and more than two hundred thousand people had fled there from elsewhere in Syria.
