Hamid Karzai, the Afghan president, is running into strong opposition on several fronts to his call for elections in April.

That's four months earlier than election officials are planning.

Just hours after Karzai issued his decree,the US expressed concern the early election wouldn't be viable.

Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, has phoned him to discussed the move, and some local members of parliament say he's trying to make sure he gets re-elected.
