Three weeks into the student-led sit-in protest at Taiwan's parliament against a contentious trade pact with China, the crowd has shrunk as the weather turned bad.

At least 200 students, however, would not leave despite pouring rain and bone-chilling winds. To protect the logistics at the site, several containers were called in to store the food and necessities donated by the public.

Many sought shelter at nearby buildings as the weather worsened. Blankets and raincoats their only armor against the rainwater. A female college student, wrapped in a thin blanket, was seen sitting alone in the middle of the road, a warrior in the fight to guard the nation's democracy.
