Professor Fired After Gaza Remarks

Опубликовано 10 сентября 2014, 22:08
A newly-tenured professor is out of a job. Steven Salaita just earned his tenure at the University of Illinois, teaching Indigenous Studies last fall. The state school pushed him out after his controversial comments on the war in Gaza. Students staged a campus-wide walkout, protesting the university’s decision. They’re calling it a clear infringement of academic freedom. Now, Salaita, a Palestinian-American, is speaking out for the first time. He says big money is actively silencing any pro-Palestinian voices throughout the country. U of I Chancellor Phyllis Wise calls his comments “uncivil,” and accused the professor of abusing his position to spew his personal, extremely biased opinions.
