On Tuesday a number of attendees at a Michigan high school football field were struck by gunfire in a police-involved shooting. After being alerted that individuals embroiled in a Grand Rapids high school dispute would be at the game, several law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene. According to Police Chief Joseph E. Thomas, Jr., "We did everything we could to prevent this from happening," explaining that local police and sheriff's deputies were positioned to stop the suspects from entering the school or lingering in the parking lot. None of those wounded in the gunfire suffered life-threatening injuries.
