German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said on Saturday, leading Social Democrats of European states meeting in Paris agreed to back Luxembourg conservative Jean-Claude Juncker to become European Commission president but said they expected other top EU jobs to go to their party allies. According to EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PRESIDENT AND CENTRE-LEFT'S CANDIDATE TO LEAD EUROPEAN COMMISSION, MARTIN SCHULZ, the rules of who gets the seat are clear. Gabriel said the Social Democrats had agreed there should be no change to EU rules limiting public deficits but said they should be applied flexibly to promote growth.
