Prosecutors grill Samsung chairman

South Korean prosecutors have grilled Chairman of Samsung Electronics Lee Jae-Yong over his alleged involvement in the massive influence-peddling scandal that led to the impeachment of President Park Geun-Hye.
Investigators are trying to determine whether South Korea’s largest business group bribed Park’s jailed confidante Choi Soon-Sil to win favors. Those possible favors include getting the government’s backing for a controversial merger Samsung sought in 2015. Lee and members of his family were the biggest beneficiaries of the merger. Choi is suspected of using her friendship with the president to interfere in state affairs and to solicit business donations for a non-profit fund she controlled.
