On Monday, a helicopter rescued hikers clinging to tree branches as a flash flood tore through a normally quiet creek in the state of Arizona. According to reports, seventeen hikers, including a young child, were also rescued after being stranded Sunday in a canyon near the city of Tucson during another flash flood. The rescues comes just a week after floodwaters killed 10 members of an extended family 140 miles north of Sunday's ordeal. Flash flooding is said to be common occurrence during Arizona's yearly monsoon, a weather phenomenon that brings powerful and unpredictable storms each summer to the area that can quickly overwhelm usually calm waterways.
