A pilot was killed when his plane crashed near to the military air base of Los Llanos, Albacete shortly after taking part in Madrid’s Spanish National Day military air show on Thursday.

The pilot was one of four fighter jets involved in the military part of the parade, but when his landing went askew in Llanos de Albacete, 300 kilometres (200 miles) southeast of the capital Madrid, the pilot was unable to use his parachute.

A spokesperson for Spain's Ministry of Defense has said that investigations of the incident are underway.
