A new study suggests weight-loss surgery could help some severely obese people reduce their risk for cancer by at least 33 percent. According to UPI, the study looked at 22,200 American subjects. Results showed that patients who'd had weight-loss surgery were one-third less likely to have developed cancer, compared with those who had not had the surgery. However, the study found no significant association between cancer risk and weight-loss surgery among the men in the study. Obesity is associated with up to 40 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United States. The research revealed that at least two of the cancers found to be affected by weight-loss surgery only affect women: breast cancer and endometrial cancer.
