China’s first domestically developed automated subway line, Yanfang Line, is entering operation today. Self-driving trains can run at a maximum speed of 80 km/h along the 14.4-km line. The fully automated system will make operations at each station 15 seconds shorter than if they were handled by human conductors. The line has nine stations and connects Beijing's southwestern Yanshan and Fangshan areas.
