"The UK is grossly benefitting from the provocations both in Syria and in the United Kingdom itself," said the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to BBC's Hard Talk program, in Moscow on Monday.

"We lose the last remanence of trust to our western friends who prefer to operate on the basis of very weird logic "proof is under punishment." They punish first in Douma in Syria and then they wait for the inspectors of OPCW to visit the place and to inspect," stated Lavrov.

The FM mentioned that "when you speak about the disastrous effect of some civil wars, don't forget what shape Iraq is in, what shape Libya is in and those who did it, want to have Syria joined the club", he affirmed.

Talking about the Skripal case, Lavrov emphasised that "highly likely" is a new invention of the British diplomacy to describe why they punish people because "these people are highly likely guilty."

"The only question which was addressed to Russia, tell us how you did it, was the poisoning of this poor couple ordered by Putin or this was the result of your losing your control of the chemical arsenals?", he added.

The US, UK and France launched air strikes against multiple government targets in Damascus early on Saturday morning, in response to claims of an alleged chemical weapons attack on Douma last week. Syria and Russia have both denied the allegations.
