European leaders are meeting in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia to discuss ways to keep the Iran nuclear deal alive following the US withdrawal from the multinational agreement.

The summit comes a day after the EU leaders urged a united front in the face of Trump's decision against the nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA. The Europeans are scrambling to protect their businesses from new American sanctions. EU President Donald Tusk said with friends like Trump, there’s no need for enemies. The Sofia summit is also focused on EU’s investment in infrastructure in the Balkans to bring the region’s states up to the bloc’s standards. Russia is also high on the summit’s agenda.
