According to a report by Reuters, a group of Republican lawmakers have demanded the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the Department of Justice investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election. On Tuesday, at least 18 lawmakers called for the Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate alleged 'misconduct' by the department and the FBI. On Monday, the Justice Department agreed, in a meeting between Trump, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, to investigate “any irregularities” in tactics utilized by the FBI related to Trump’s campaign. Representative Mark Meadows, the Republican who leads the conservative Freedom Caucus, told a news conference announcing the resolution, It is time for transparency and it is time to allow the American people to know the truth."
