Turkey ends 2-year state of emergency, seeks to keep some powers

The two-year state of emergency in Turkey has ended, after being extended seven times. It had gone into effect in the wake of the botched military coup in July 2016. Ending the state of emergency was a campaign promise of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Now the government has submitted a new set of security laws to crack down on terrorist activities.
