People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) along with city-based People for Animals Welfare Organization staged a silent awareness campaign to save and protect snakes in Nagpur. Two girl students of 9th standard dressed and painted in snake attire stood holding awareness placards for more than an hour at the busy Samvidhan Square. The whole awareness campaign was organized ahead of the Nag Panchami festival. The messages on the placards were written in Hindi and English which appealed people to be kind to snakes by saving and protecting them and having a cruelty free Nag Panchami festival. Nag Panchami festival is being celebrated in Nagpur and Maharashtra in a big way. The residents were appealed to spare snakes from the terror and misery of confinement and potential death by holding snake free celebrations.
