World leaders are paying tribute this weekend to Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, who died on Saturday after a brief illness.
Annan was 80 years old.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in offered his own words of condolence on Sunday.
He said South Korea has lost a "dear friend who walked an exhausting path toward peace."
Kofi Annan is known in South Korea for having endorsed the late former President Kim Dae-jung's policy of engagement with North Korea... also known as the Sunshine Policy.
President Moon said South Koreans will carry on Annan's support for peace on the Peninsula.
Annan's successor at the UN, former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, said the late leader will be remembered for his vision and courage.
Annan led the UN from 1997 to 2006, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
