We've got these oil companies out here polluting constantly and Exxon this week was actually hit with a shareholder's security's lawsuit for allegedly covering up the damages of climate change, the consequences of it and the causes of it, in a way that would eventually harm the people who invest in Exxon. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discuss this issue.

We've got these oil companies out here polluting constantly and Exxon this week was actually hit with a shareholder's security's lawsuit for allegedly covering up the damages of climate change, the consequences of it and the causes of it, in a way that would eventually harm the people who invest in Exxon. This week, a judge ruled that this lawsuit can move forward and that Exxon can be held liable for hiding this information, not just from their shareholders, but also from the public. As we know, Exxon has known about the dangers of climate change since at least the 1970s. Some documents suggest that they actually knew about it in the 40s and 50s and scientists have actually known about it since the 1860s. Nonetheless, Exxon is now facing a massive lawsuit for hiding this, but here's the problem.

They're not facing the lawsuit because they've destroyed the environment and contributed to it. They're facing the lawsuit because it could affect rich people now, people who invest in Exxon, the shareholders. While it's good that this suit is moving forward, come on. We have seen lawsuit after lawsuit against the fossil fuel companies on behalf of average people thrown out at alarming rates over the last month, but now Exxon ripped off some rich people over climate change and now they're getting sued for it, and the judge says, "Yeah, this one can go forward." To hell with this, right? This is what our justice system is, though. If you're rich, they're going to take care of you. If you're poor and getting screwed by a corporation, you're probably somehow to blame for it. Yeah, I'm glad the lawsuit's going forward, but so should too the other lawsuits against this company. We'll be right back.
