Business Insider recently asked the question, "What happens when you let employees pick how much they want to be paid?" They discovered that a start-up in London called Smarkets did just that. They wrote, "Smarkets, a betting startup based in London, lets employees pick how much they want to get paid. The system works through social consensus, and each employee's salary information is published in the company's internal wiki. There are pros and cons to the process, but ultimately it works." Jason Trost wrote, "I think this is the fairest system. It gives people a rightful sense that they are more in control of their job, more in control of their position."
