Images released by Roscosmos show Russian Cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and US Astronaut Nick Hague alive and well in Baikonur on Thursday after they were forced to make an emergency landing after a booster on their Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft failed shortly after launch.

Their capsule is believed to have landed 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) away from the village of Zhezqazghan. They were picked up by a search and rescue crew and returned to Baikonur.

They were originally scheduled to return to Earth in April 2019.
