Over the weekend President Trump said he would pull the U.S. out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).
The treaty was signed in 1987 by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan.
According to CNN, Trump accused Russia of repeatedly breaking the treaty.
Gorbachev criticized Trump's plan to pull out of the Cold War-era nuclear arms treaty as "unacceptable" and "irresponsible."
The treaty was seen as a watershed moment during the final days of the Cold War.
It has helped eliminate thousands of land-based missiles from the US and Russia.
John Bolton, U.S. National Security Advisor, is currently in Moscow to negotiate the withdrawal.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the U.S. "dilutes" the agreement.
The U.S. has deployed anti-missile systems that can be used to launch short- or medium-range missiles.
