Cyclone Gaja: NDRF teams carry out clearance work in Nagapattinam

The cyclone Gaja has wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam. Trees uprooted and houses got damaged in the overnight rainfall and strong winds which hit the town. NDRF teams have reached the cyclone Gaja affected areas. 15 teams of NDRF are prepositioned in cyclone-hit areas in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The severe cyclonic storm is likely to move towards westwards and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm within next few hours. Rescue operations and clearance work are underway. Red alert was issued by Tamil Nadu government and Indian Navy has also been put on alert for relief efforts.
