Patrick Hernandez (born 6 April 1949 in Le Blanc-Mesnil, Seine-Saint-Denis, France) is a French singer who had a worldwide hit with "Born to Be Alive" in 1979.
Hernandez lived in the 1970's in Aalbeke (Vlaanderen, Belgium) where he wrote his disco hit 'Born to be Alive'. It became a big hit.
Worldwide the single grossed about 25 million dollar. More than 20 million copies were sold. It became a #1 hit in France in April 1979.
In the Netherlands Top 40 it reached no. 5 in 1979.

At the time 'Born To Be Alive' was a hit, a very young Madonna at the age of 19 was in the entourage of Patrick Hernandez in Paris. She told in an interview that she worked with him in Paris.

This performance was taped by TopPop on April 4, 1998 at the 75th anniversary of the AVRO in the tv-program 'TopPop terug op televisie'.
