House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled to President Trump in a letter Wednesday that she will not allow him to deliver next week’s scheduled State of the Union address from the House floor.

“I am writing to inform you that the House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the president’s State of the Union address in the House Chamber until government has opened,” Pelosi wrote in the letter to Trump.

Whether the speech takes place in the House chamber remains Pelosi’s call, as the House and Senate must approve a concurrent resolution approving the use of the chamber for the State of the Union.

Earlier in the day, Trump told Pelosi he was still planning to deliver the address from the House floor. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy had also introduced a concurrent resolution to the House to allow the State of the Union to go on as planned on January 29.
