According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, North Carolina election officials are scheduled to hear a second day of evidence concerning what investigators call a political operative's scheme to tip a congressional race in his party's favor with unlawful absentee ballots. On Monday, a State Board of Elections official said that a probe into disputed November 6th election for the state's 9th Congressional District seat uncovered a 'coordinated, unlawful' and well-funded operation. The seat has reportedly remained vacant since state officials refused to certify the apparent victory by Republican Mark Harris over Democratic opponent Dan McCready by 905 votes out of 282,717 ballots cast. Reuters reports that a finding of fraud could trigger a new election.
