Animals like opossums and raccoons find a way to use people’s trash to survive. While they are constantly seen digging in the trash, non-food human garbage is not part of their diet. According to Lisa Walsh, a doctoral student in ecology and evolutionary biology, they mostly eat scrambled eggs and potatoes. Walsh has a theory that opossums settle in garbage bins to keep out of the cold. According to Extra, Walsh said humans are taking over their environments and opossums are simply trying to adapt.
