The Pentagon said on Wednesday the U.S. Government would send additional troops to the border with Mexico.
The new deployment of 1,000 Texas National Guardsmen and 1,100 active-duty troops is in support of Presiden Trump’s immigration crackdown.
The Pentagon approved the high-profile deployment of troops to the Mexico border in October, before the November congressional elections.
According to Reuters, there are currently about 4,500 active duty and National Guard troops on the border with Mexico.
Last month, Mexico deployed almost 15,000 soldiers and National Guard to stem the flow of illegal immigration into the United States.
