Waste warriors: Ahmedabad shows the way in garbage recycling

Door to door waste collection in Ahmedabad is more than 4,000 metric tons every day. This is collected from over 14 lakhs homes. Nearly 600 vehicles and 13,000 employees are deployed for this collection. The waste is transferred to a big truck and taken to the garbage dumping site. Pirana dumping site is located at Ahmedabad on NH 8. The municipal corporation also collects 1,000 metric tonnes of dry waste every day. Dry waste comprises of metal items, computer hardware, CDs etc. This dry waste is processed and recycled into manhole lids and street furniture.
