The U.S. Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort finished its medical mission in Colon, #Panama this week. Since August 7, a team of more than 900 personnel, including U.S. military, non-governmental organization volunteers, and international volunteers from partner nations, has been working together to provide medical assistance and help relieve pressure on health systems strained by the Venezuelan migration crisis. The hospital ship performed around 120 surgeries on board, and served 500 patients per day at the two medical sites in Colon, providing medical, dental, and optometry services.

This mission is the seventh deployment of the ship to the region since 2007, and the fourth to Panama. The USNS Comfort mission demonstrates U.S. commitment to humanitarian aid and support for our partner nations providing services to displaced Venezuelans. The #USNSComfort will continue its five month mission, which runs through November 2019, with additional stops across Latin America and the Caribbean to continue this important work. The ship will arrive in Colombia on Monday, August 18.
