Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said there has been a “significant decrease” in U.S.- bound immigration. He said people from Central America are not going through Mexico as much and he expects the trend to continue. According to Reuters, Ebrard said his meeting with Vice President Mike Pence was friendly. He then criticized comments made by the acting director of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, calling it an “unacceptable insult.” Ebrard said Mexico will continue to reject the idea of acting as a safe third country, where asylum seekers seek claim in Mexico first.
