Rep. Adam Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chair spoke about the importance of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. "This is a story about an effort to coerce, condition or bribe a foreign country into doing the dirty work of the president," Schiff said of the impeachment hearings. "The fact that they failed in this solicitation of bribery doesn't make it any less bribery, doesn't make it any less immoral or corrupt. It just means it wasn't successful." Schiff further said that Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, was viewed as an "obstacle" by the president and his allies amid an effort to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Schiff spoke after Yovanovitch delivered her testimony on Nov. 15, the second day of public impeachment hearings. The impeachment probe centers around a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Yovanovitch has testified that she was forced out of her position after Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, engineered a smear campaign against her.
