US Hockey Hall of Fame honors growth of sport from Ovechkin to Wendell

The U.S Hockey Hall of Fame inducted five new members during the annual event, hosted this year by the Washington Capitals in Washington, D.C. Former NHL players Brian Gionta and Tim Thomas were enshrined during the event as well as US women's hockey star Krissy Wendell. It marks Thomas' first public appearance since his retirement in 2014. The Lester Patrick Trophy went to Doctor James Blatherwick, who was crucial to the success of the 1980 USA 'Miracle on Ice' team.
