Director Ilya Khrzhanovskiy and actress Natalia Berezhnaya discussed some of the themes of the film 'DAU. Natasha', ahead of the film's world premiere at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, at a press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin on Wednesday.

"This is a story about people who for some reasons, usually connected through mindfulness, decided to take an emotionally difficult revealing journey," Khrzhanovskiy said.

The film revolves around a canteen in the secret Soviet research institute on a large-scale simulation of the totalitarian system under Stalin and its aftermath. Natasha (actress Natalia Berezhnaya) and Olga work in the canteen, where Natasha falls in love with a visitor, before the secret service intervenes.

Khrzhanovskiy started working on DAU, a multi-disciplinary project at the intersection of cinema, art and anthropology, in 2006.

The 70th edition of the Berlinale International Film Festival is taking place until March 1.
