Trump, health officials outline U.S. response to coronavirus outbreak

President Donald Trump's press conference from the hardly used White House briefing room was intended to calm nerves. But Trump seemed to underplay the severity of the coronavirus, and wrongly stated that non-Americans are currently banned from coming into the U.S. from China. He said a vaccine should be developed soon, but experts say it’s likely close to a year away.

The virus has now spread from China to Japan, South Korea, Italy, Iran and elsewhere, causing global panic and sending the stock market tumbling. In Washington, aides are fearful that a slowing economy could hurt one of Trump’s key messages during his reelection bid.
