Bodycam Footage Shows Officer-Involved Shooting of William Debose

Denver, Colorado — Denver District Attorney Beth McCann determined that the officer-involved shooting of William Debose on May 1, 2020, in the 3200 block of West Colfax Avenue was legally justified. District Attorney McCann concluded that the shooting was legally justified and that no criminal charges are warranted against Officer Ethan Antonson. Debose was being pursued on foot by Denver Police officers after they spotted a car driving erratically on the highway, involved DPD air unit to follow the suspect car and located it on the 3200 block of West Colfax Avenue. According to the Denver Police, Debose, 21, pulled out a weapon while officers were chasing him. Officer Antonson fired his gun four times until Debose fell to the ground. Police said that officers found a fully-loaded Taurus 9mm handgun next to Debose right after he was shot.
