He served as physician to the secret research community in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He delivered babies. He helped plan safety measures for the first A-bomb tests. And he escorted the so-called “Little Boy” atomic bomb from Los Alamos to the base where it would take off to be dropped on Hiroshima.
