Violent clashes broke out between police and over 2,000 football and ice hockey fans who were protesting anti-coronavirus measures in Prague on Sunday.

Footage shows officers using tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters and detaining some of them.

Police said they were forced to end the rally as the number of participants exceeded the maximum allowed number of 500.

The government banned all sporting events except international competitions for two weeks on Monday.

It happened after COVID-19 numbers rose sharply in the country. A record 8,700 cases were registered on Saturday, according to the authorities.
