#ThisWeekAtState​, Sudan’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism was officially rescinded. Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Keith Krach welcomed Brazil to the Artemis Accords. Secretary Pompeo congratulated the Venezuelan people on the success of the Consulta Popular or “People’s Referendum.” Assistant Secretary of State for Political Military Affairs R. Clarke Cooper, discussed the United States as the security partner of choice for nations around the world.

Pompeo, the U.S. Department of State leads America’s foreign policy through diplomacy, advocacy, and assistance by advancing the interests of the American people, their safety and economic prosperity. United States Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo was sworn in as the 70th U.S. Secretary of State on April 26, 2018. The Secretary of State, appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the President's chief foreign affairs adviser. The Secretary carries out the President's foreign policies through the State Department, which includes the Foreign Service, Civil Service and U.S. Agency for International Development.
