Substitute teachers may have a more permanent role as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. As more staff members are becoming sick and protesting in-school learning, the need for subs is higher than ever. To quickly hire subs, several states are temporarily relaxing their qualification requirements, including Iowa and Missouri. Rhode Island launched a new training program, Michigan districts are using billboards to attract new subs, and in Connecticut substitutes no longer need a bachelor’s degree.
