President-elect Joe Biden arrived at the U.S. Capitol for his Jan. 20 inauguration alongside Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and their spouses, Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff. Exactly two weeks ago, a violent pro-Trump mob stormed the building where Biden will be sworn in, killing five people. There are some 26,000 National Guard troops stationed in Washington to protect the city in light of today’s events. Former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are all in attendance for Biden’s inauguration. President Donald Trump will not attend his successor’s ceremony, breaking a longstanding tradition. He departed the White House early this morning and spoke to supporters at Joint Base Andrews before boarding Air Force One, which is en route to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
