A container to store the bodies of people who have lost their lives to COVID-19 has been placed outside the Hospital Eduardo Campos in Recife, as seen on Thursday.

"I think people are panicking, and this container should not be so exposed. This does not help," reacted a local.

"It's very impactful. And i think it makes you be more careful and protect yourself more. Only by looking at it it has an impact, like thinking that there are people there, relatives who lost their loved ones are there," commented another Recife resident.

Brazil is experiencing a rampant coronavirus outbreak. The country registered a record of COVID-19 deaths for the second straight day, on Wednesday, with 1,910 lives lost to the pandemic.

According to data provided by John Hopkins University, Brazil has the second-highest death toll in the world with 260,970 deaths to-date.

SOT, Wilma de Matos, Local (Portuguese): "I think people are panicking, and this container should not be so exposed. This does not help."

SOT, Wilma de Matos, Local (Portuguese): "We should have a different type of behaviour, like for packed buses. I take the bus every day and it's full of people and that helps to spread the virus. Like the lines. Someone goes to the bank and then stays in a line. I think that there are better things to be concerned with than this container. People panic as if death is waiting right there."

SOT, Janaina Pereira, Local (Portuguese): "It's very impactful. And I think it makes you more careful and protect yourself more. Only by looking at it it has an impact, like thinking that there are people there, relatives who lost their loved ones are there."

SOT, Janaina Pereira, Local (Portuguese): "And the blame is on all of us, the people but also the government, because they should be the example."

SOT, Janaina Pereira, Local (Portuguese): "We don't know how tomorrow will be, if we will be with our parents, if we will be alive, because it's not about being old or young. We don't know anything anymore, one day at a time."
