About 80 percent of people with disabling hearing loss live in low and middle-income countries, according to the World Health Organization. The burden of hearing impairment is higher in sub-Saharan Africa than elsewhere in the world. For more insight, Africa 54 health correspondent Linord Moudou spoke to Ambroise Wonkam, a medical geneticist and principal investigator for the Hearing Impairment Genetics Studies in Africa project.
